    The unit question is a braod question that relates directly to the unit you are teaching. An example is..what are the essential skills needed for 5th grade geometry?

    The unit question is a braod question that relates directly to the unit you are teaching. An example would be What has the U.S. done to prevent similar panics to the early 1930’s?

    A question that is still open ended, but applies to your whole unit. A question that cannot be easily answered.

    The unit question asks a question about a specific unit. It is open ended and allows the students to start to formulate answers relating to their unit of study.

    The unit question relates to the unit you are teaching. It is not as broad as the essential question.

    The frame of the umbrella.

    Unit questions are linked to the Essential questions and start focusing on core concepts.

    Unit questions are open ended, it keeps the learner looking for more information. They are related to the projects and support investigation into the essential question. Tell me more, tell me more.

    Unit questions narrow the essential question into a more specific area and lead to content specific questions. Examples would be:

    1. What families are in the orchestra?
    2. What instruments belong to the woodwind family?
    3. What instruments belong to the brass family?

    The unit question is the "big idea." It answers where the unit is going...and where it will end.
